Studying in America has always been a dream of many generations of Vietnamese students from the past. However, due to differences in geography, climate, and culture, many Vietnamese students still have questions about the preparation of "melon wrapper" to study in this country.

1. Papers and money

Papers:  You should bring with you everything related to your personal identity and keep a copy of the same in Vietnam for your family. The documents in Vietnamese should be translated into English and notarized. In addition, some other papers you must definitely have are:

- Passports, visas and I-94: This is a set of documents that are intertwined and valid for your legal entry into the United States during the first year of your visa. I-94 is the entry document you posted on the plane before stepping on the US land and by the airport security staff at the first US airport you step down stamped and confirmed. I-94 is extremely important.

Visa is a year, but it is the time you are allowed in the United States only. The length of stay is determined by I-94. I-94 will show you how much time you have left in the US (usually equal to the time spent on Visa, sometimes less). However, there will be one more F1 D / S (F1 Duration Status), which means that when the time expires on I-94, you will not be deported if you keep your F1 status (Dependent I -20).

- I-20: After the visa expires, the I-20 will be a passport for you to stay in the United States. The important thing to do is maintain the I-20 in force (F1 status is still valid). You will then be in the US legally as long as you do not leave the United States in any form.
Passport, Visa, I-94, I-20 should be put together as they will be required to be presented throughout your flight.
Birth certificates, health checks, identity cards, admission papers, etc.:  These documents are not necessarily original (except for medical examination in English). UK and notary. These are equally important because when you are at an airport terminal, security personnel may ask you to show them (especially medical certificates).

Money: According to Vietnamese government regulations, Vietnamese citizens can bring up to US $ 5,000 at departure. Should pay the same place, do not split it. Security technology at the airport is very high, so they only need to sift through the thickness of money is knowing how much you carry. Do not split it up because it will make them unsure of the number and you will be kept for inspection separately, very annoying. In addition, before going to change the $ 100 to odd denominations of 1 or five dollars to spend along the road.

. Clothes
Studying for a long time in the United States can make you want to bring your wardrobe on the road. But each place has a different climate. With limited luggage, you do not have to worry about bringing your winter clothes to hot year-round states such as Houston, Texas. In addition, in order to withstand harsh snow conditions, winter clothing purchased abroad is definitely better,  both fit and not damaged.

How to prepare to study abroad?

3. Learning Tools Learning
objects such as pencils, rulers, notebooks, computers, laptops, electronic dictionaries abroad, more specifically the US, are relatively expensive. Therefore, it is advisable to carry it for the first time. Particularly students of science and accounting need to calculate a lot, computers are very necessary, so buy in Vietnam before studying abroad.

4. Drugs and personal tools
Study abroad means that there will be no parents in the care of the sick. So, when you first go to the US, you should equip yourself with a mini drug box of common medicine, cough, headache ... Also, bring many personal items such as face towels, brushes. .. will save you a small amount because the cost of living in the United States is very expensive. Liquids such as water, milk, shampoo and sharp objects will be detected by the scanners and banned from boarding. But when you enter the lounge area can be comfortable to buy water, perfume ... in the refreshment stalls, cosmetics. If you want to bring cosmetics on the plane, the bottles must be less than 100 ml and not more than 10 bottles, in plastic bags transparent. So if you bring the necessary items such as fruit knife, scissors or Cosmetics and liquid milk, it is best to put on checked luggage.

5. US
luggage regulations are one of the countries that strictly control entry and exit security. Therefore, when preparing your luggage to the United States, you should be aware of certain regulations at airports and customs to avoid trouble on the road.
According to the US customs regulations, you are allowed to bring 2 suitcases, 23 kilograms each and the total width, length and height of your luggage is less than 158 cm. On hand luggage, each airline has its own regulations. Normal hand luggage must not exceed 7 kg. So make sure your luggage does not exceed the rules, otherwise you will have to leave luggage at the airport or charge extra for excess baggage.
You should also be prepared to deal with a number of baggage related problems.

- Asked to check luggage after passing the airport security scanner: This is perfectly normal and should not worry much. You should calm down, follow the requirements of security personnel. Usually they will open your luggage directly. They do not juggle your luggage, the scanner has just pinpointed the location of your suspicious item. Therefore, hand luggage must be arranged by you so that you know what your suitcase is and answer the security officer's question. It is important to be calm and confident.

- Lost luggage: Another thing is normal in the US airport system. What you need to do is go to the "Lost and Found" area at the airport. Follow their requirements to describe luggage and provide personal information. About a week after the baggage will be returned to you (completely free).

- No port can be found to check-in for the next flight or get lost: Airports in the US are quite large, but you just need to pay attention to information on air tickets. Watching the signs is easy to find the way. If you are not sure, do not go any further, ask any airport staff (even the cleaning staff), they will happily point you in, if they need to, they will direct you directly. . It is useful to ask these employees when you are late for a flight, and they can tell the flight crew to wait a bit longer.
